BYOP® - Nacogdoches is directed by Certified BYOP® Local Instructor Cotina Evans
My name is Cotina Evans. I am a native and was raised in the small town of Nacogdoches, Texas. The city of Nacogdoches would, shape, mold, and instill values in me that would begin the course of my career and life. I have spent my entire life in East Texas grooming and training in the sport of volleyball but more importantly teaching valuable lessons to young women to be confident and to go after what they want in life.
After graduating from Nacogdoches High School in May 1991, I had no hesitation on the path I wanted to pursue...Being a positive influence in the lives of young women through the sport of volleyball. Enrolling into Angelina College in the neighboring town of Lufkin, Texas was my first stop. Attaining my Associates Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in December 1997 was only the beginning of my journey. I knew I needed more and I craved more. I enrolled into Stephen F. Austin State University and obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree with a minor in Reading and Kinesiology in May 1999 but not without life's obstacles. These obstacles pushed me to my limits but also gave me the drive and motivation that was needed to complete my mission there. My education, persistence, and determination paved the way to my first professional job with Lufkin Independent School District as a Middle School Coach. I would hold and grow in this position from 1999-2006 before pursing and being offered the position of Head Volleyball Coach at Lufkin High School. From 2006-2016. I would have the experience and pleasure of touching and cultivating the lives and skills of many young women that attended the high school and were involved in the athletic program. But still living in the town of Nacogdoches allowed me to see daily the need for structure, organization, and compassion for the young women there too. After all it is my home; the place that had given so much to me. So, in 2016, I made the decision to pursue a position at my alma mater- Nacogdoches High School which I currently oversee the entire volleyball program as head coach. I am also currently in my last semester of the Master's Program at Stephen F. Austin State University pursuing a degree in Educational Leadership.
Besides my love for youth and the sport of volleyball, I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising/running, fishing, and most importantly spending as much time as possible with my amazing 6-year-old grandson. The love and support of my husband of 18 years, my 3 children, and many more family members are huge contributors of my success. I am a firm believer in hard work, discipline, and celebrating the positive but also learning from the negative. My Mantra is simple: I never loose... I'm either winning or learning!
